Christopher Columbus reported seeing mermaids at sea on his voyage to the new world.

So embedded in the human psyche is this notion of the mermaid, she repeats in Greek mythology, and in the tales of Atlantis, the continent that slipped into the sea. She appears in many myths of the oceans.

In this mural I love the sense of freedom in the element of water!

The myth of the mermaid with her senses attuned to the depths, considered both healer and half aquatic.

Since we ourselves are biologically composed of 60% water, hard though it is to believe, it’s not surprising that we respond to the pull of the moon as do the tides.
